December 4 - 8

Hello Grade 3 Community!

Thanks so much for all the donations this week - it's been SUCH a help! The only thing that would be really helpful would be some extra flour and one container of mod podge! Everything else has been covered. THANK YOU!

This week was an awesome week. We were learning about compound words and endings, did reading in small groups, started to learn how to tell time, practiced our Christmas carols, made playdoh (exploring how matter changes when heated), worked on adding and subtracting strategies (ways to make 10 and doubling), dropped off candy canes in the neighborhood where we do outdoor school weekly, finished our novel, "Operation Bunny" (there are some sequels if you are interested in carrying this on, over Christmas as a family, or the second book could make a great Christmas gift :), wrote letters to some elves and mailed those off and did some gingerbread art. PHEW! It's been busy!

As we head into next week here are some things to remember:

1. Learning commons is on Tuesday, thanks for helping us get our books back! If you have a lost book, please let me know and I can get Mrs. Luesink to add it to your school cash so it can be paid for and your child can take out more books.

2. Tuesday we are also making salt dough in the classroom. This is an extension of our playdoh matter exploration. What changes will happen when we heat matter? If you are able to join us the Grade 3 classes would LOVE some volunteers! We will be working on this from 9:00 am onwards!

3. Wednesday is our caroling day, please dress for the weather! We will be leaving the school at 1:30 for the afternoon. Wednesday evening is WINTER WONDERLAND from 6:00 - 7:30! We are asking for a dozen treats per family for those that attend, so that there will be treats to share. It will be a fun night at school for the whole family. I hope you can make it, I'll be in the kitchen serving up the snacks - make sure you say hi!

4. Thursday is the choir/handbell concert for the whole school and families to enjoy. It begins at 2:45 pm, gym doors open at 2:30!

5. Friday we will be celebrating Julianna's birthday at 9:50!

**There has been a new field trip permission click added for the 20th trip to Pavan. Please take a minute to make sure you fill that out this weekend (thanks so much)!

In the photos this week you will see some outdoor school goodness, fish tank fascinations (we have baby guppies!!!!), some amazing holiday centers in the learning commons, and some art and playdoh.
