January 2024!

Hello Grade 3 Community!

It's been an awesome (but CHILLY) week back! We've spent a lot of time resetting our classroom culture and expectations, and diving into some new content! We set some goals for 2024 and did some reflecting on all the things we were grateful for over Christmas and in 2023. We also started a new novel "Pages and Co. Tilly and the Book Wanderers" which has been really fun. The students worked hard at learning a TON of new vocabulary from the first 4 chapters. They also had a snowshoeing opportunity for outdoor learning this week and we worked on restoring balance to our living system. Ask your kiddo what we did to our tank this week and why we had to intervene!

This month we are going to be focusing on measurement in math, information writing in language arts, starting our study of Peru in social studies and exploring the layers of the earth in science. We launch reading groups next week for targeted intervention and leveled practice, which I am also really excited about.

Reminders for next week:

-Crochet club starts up on Mondays (second nutrition break) in my room! I am excited to be hosting this opportunity through the chilly months for our div. 2 students!

-Learning Commons Tuesday - thanks for your help getting our books back!

-Wednesday is Outdoor School at Popson Park first thing in the morning ... we will be exploring the layers of the earths surface. If you'd like to join us, let me know! Please help your child be dressed for the weather!

-Friday is crazy hair day! Mrs. Latham will be joining us, as I will be away!

Thanks for taking the time to follow along and please let me know if there are areas I can support you or your child at school.

Ms. M
