February 9th!

Hello Parents,

Thank you to all the parents who took time to respond to the questions I sent out last week. It was really reassuring to see that so many of you are checking the website weekly and are finding the weekly updates helpful and a good home/school connection! In the future I won't take your silence as a lack of interest or participation :). It is helpful for me to know that this has purpose and is being enjoyed - so thank you!

This week we started exploring Tunisia. We also had a digital wellness presentation from the district (which was VERY cool), we learned a lot about balance and found some helpful tools for navigating time on tech, like "how does it make me feel when I am done online?", "what is my purpose on here?" "what is my plan after I complete this time/task?". I found this a really valuable time and the kids really enjoyed our presenter Mr. M from the district. We will be working on a follow up booklet next week so keep a look out for that coming home next week. We've also been working on perimeter in math, which we will wrap up next week and we've been continuing in our reading groups and information writing unit. The students participated in the Canadian Winter Walk Day for outdoor school this Wednesday and they had fun making a "snow chair" challenge on the walk home. We wrapped up our month long basketball unit - what a blast we had. This group was by far my favorite class to play basketball with. They improved SO MUCH, and worked so hard. It was incredible to see their enthusiasm and growth. This Friday we caught up on incomplete tasks and then decorated for Valentine's Day (so cute)! It's been the perfect time to focus on friendship skills, kindness and building healthy relationships.

Next week:

We have loooooottttssss going on! It's going to be a busy week! We will also be wrapping up some units and I will be gathering some information for formal assessments.

Monday: No crochet club!

Tuesday: Lilly B.'s birthday and we are going on a field trip to "The Brother's Grim Out of Order" play on the bus with the Gr. 1-3! We also have Learning Commons - don't forget your books. Mrs. Luesink for one, is awesome but secondly sets up the coolest things for our learning commons time. This month the kids are exploring lights and shadows. I will try to get some photos for next weeks blog - they are having a blast with it!

Wednesday:

Field trip at Popson Park! We will be exploring erosion down at Popson Park from 9-11! Want to join in on the fun? Let me know!

Valentine's Day! Wear red/white today! The kiddos voted on having a card exchange and a smoothie party. I will be providing smoothies for the class. If anyone is free and wants to come join in the fun with their blender at 2:00 that would be awesome! No pressure though, we will make it work if we don't get any volunteers. Please keep in mind we have a pork allergy so gelatin derived candies are not ideal for all students in our class. There is no pressure to provide "extras" ... candies, gifts etc. If you want your child to make homemade cards this weekend - that is great! If something purchased works for you - awesome! If you would rather not have your child participate, please let me know ahead of time! I will include a class list below for card making :). Students are also invited to bring in board games or any special crafting materials to set up craft centers - it should be fun!

Thursday: A normal day - phew!

Friday: I am away for a medical appointment - Mrs. Latham will be joining us for art in the morning!

Have a wonderful weekend!

Ms. M
