May Update and Looking into June!

Hello Parents!

We've had such a great few weeks here in our class. We wrapped up our geometry unit this week in numeracy and we will launch into angles next week. In literacy we have been focusing on reading strategies and on word patterns for spelling.

This week we also learned about our wrap up project for social studies called "The Golden Ticket Project". The students will choose one place in Peru, Tunisia, India or Ukraine and be a travel agent trying to sell as many trips to that place as possible. The students will present in small groups to an audience of all the grade 3's. At the end of the presentation all students will be given a golden ticket and they will write where they would like to travel to. At the end of all presentations the travel agent with the most votes will win the title of "World's Best Travel Agent"! Right now we are just at the planning phase. The students started creating a master list of all the places that could be interesting. Next week we will draw sticks and students will choose one place off the list. We want to make sure that everyone has a unique place. Then students will start planning the type of project they want to do whether it's a video, a PowerPoint presentation, a poster, a diorama, a mobile ... the sky's the limit! They will then get a due date and presentation date! I'm really looking forward to this and hoping to see them showcase some great skills and effort as this will be their wrap up project for the year.

Next week we will begin writing our ORIGINAL fairy tale. This will be our final writing project and a celebration, year end project too! I am really excited to see how they've grown.

The end of the year is rapidly approaching and I want to give you an outline of all the important dates coming up and opportunities for you to join us for field trips! Mrs. Goruk and I have planned some great outdoor activities and also a lot of consistency up until the end to make our end of the year enjoyable and peaceful! Our last full week of school will be happening mostly outdoors so proper clothing, big healthy lunches, water, hats and sunscreen are needed! Here's what you need to know:

Next week:

Tuesday: LAST RUN CLUB DAY (for those involved)! 8 am for a quick run and treats! We will do a group photo so wear your Plaxton gear or a bright T-shirt! It is also learning commons so please remember your books!

Outdoor school will continue on Wednesday's. Thank you for preparing your kiddo for the weather!

The New West Theatre residency is here. The students will get private sessions during the week and then there will be a small performance on Friday that you are welcome to attend. The performances are from 9-10:15 in the gym. There is a small charge on school cash for this!

Special Dates:

June 17th: We will be doing our tye die project that requires a white t-shirt. The shirt was part of our class list. The following students need to bring in a plain white shirt as soon as possible please:

Ibraheem, Jace, Rose, Logan, Lily M., Mason, Ishani, Harker, Bethany, Olivia, Evenia and Ryder.

June 18th: This is the Div. 2 water fight day. Please make sure your kiddo is dressed to get wet (and then to dry off again :)).

June 19th: Our LAST outdoor school! We will be celebrating by having a fun day down in the river bottom. We will be leaving in the morning and returning around 2 in the afternoon. There will be a bring your own picnic lunch, a hike, wide games, and a fire with smores. If you want to join us or be part of the fun, please RSVP!

June 20th: Sport's Day! This event happens in our school grounds in the afternoon. Please dress for the weather and for outdoor movement! Hats are always recommended.

June 24th: We are going swimming at Stan Siwik from 1-3 pm. We need an adult to student ration of 3:1 so we need lots of volunteers. We do not need all adults to swim, we just need them present on deck to count for the ratio. If you would like to join us, please RSVP!

Upcoming Birthday Celebrations:

We celebrate at 10:50 with a birthday circle. Parents you are welcome to join us then and if you would like to bring a snack to share, you are welcome to. No pressure, but feel free to come. If you do are planning to come - send me a quick email!

Logan - June 3

Jessica - June 13

Amelia - June 24

Ishani - June 25

Jace - June 26   *Last day of school*

I'm so incredibly proud of this awesome group of kiddos! Their plant sale was a HUGE success. I tried to snap a few quick photos for those who couldn't be there but it was very beautiful to see their team work, creativity and all the effort they put into this club. WOW! They raised $166.80 today! AMAZING!

On that note, have a wonderful weekend. If there's anything I can do to support your family in these last few weeks of school, please let me know. Thanks again for all your support. I have so enjoyed this year with you all!

Ms. M
