Hello Parents!

Another beautiful week has passed here in Grade 3. These kiddos continue to be engaged, collaborative, enthusiastic learners! We had our first big outdoor school trip and it was a great success - engaged, polite and curious learners - yay!

This week was also the Terry Fox run. We took some extra time to learn about Terry's life and discuss why we thought he was a Canadian hero. The students had very interesting and deep discussions about this during the week. I really enjoyed hearing their thoughts and perspectives. I've published some of their thoughts in the gallery. The subject of death and loss naturally comes up during this week and it was a great opportunity to discuss this natural part of life. We talked about grief, thankfulness and many shared their thoughts on future hope. It was a wonderful time of listening to others and self reflection. We mentioned and named many of those we have lost and loved. So special.

We've been finishing our big mapping project. The students have been very proud of their work. Those will come home soon for you to see and enjoy. At outdoor school we even had a chance to use a map on the trail to further some of our learning. This inspired more map making and sharing back in the classroom - I love that kind of interconnectedness!

A few reminders for the coming week:

- Every TUESDAY is learning commons. Thanks for helping us stay organized at home and get those library books back in our backpacks on Monday night.

- Choir is WEDNESDAY at first nutrition break. We have lots of participants in our class, which is lovely to see!

- WEDNESDAY afternoon is outdoor school this week. We are not on the bus (that is the THIRD Wednesday and we always leave in the mornings). We will be in the neighborhood. Thanks for looking over our clothing choices that morning :). Layers are our friend at this time of year! Please also help your kiddo pack an extra snack or two. Many of us (me included) were VERY HUNGRY in the afternoon after our big morning :).

- I also wanted to link in this awesome contest I found. I have been doing a lot of professional learning in the realm of "outdoor school", outdoor play and indigenous land knowledge. I came across this AWESOME contest and thought I would send it out to you all in case your kiddo wanted to enter! It's a lovely prize and we won't have time to enter as a class this year. Check out the link here Take Me Outside Student Video Contest - Take Me Outside - if you want to enter the deadline is September 29th.

This whole website is AMAZING - feel free to check it out at www.takemeoutside.ca

- FRIDAY we will be celebrating Lily M.'s birthday

We will be participating in Take Me Outside Day on October 18th (it just so happens it is our normal day for outdoor learning - yay!).

I think that's everything for now. As always, if you have any questions, comments, conversations, please reach out!

Ms. M
