Hello Parents,
It was a very fun, hands-on learning week here in Grade 3! Below, you'll see the highlight reel of some of our learning. We did reading assessments this week, which was such a joy to spend one-on-one time with each kiddo. We made our own compasses! A very neat opportunity to watch the students individually create their own experiment and practice trial and error. We were outside Wednesday morning at the wetlands, in one of my favorite places in Lethbridge, affectionately named "the building zone". The students created, played, imagined and climbed. It was an absolutely glorious morning! We had a freshly harvested sugar beet that we got to try and we read a book on how sugar is made and talked about the history of sugar beets in Alberta. We added Mystery snails and Blue Neocardina Shrimp to our living system ... SO MUCH FUN! We have learned how to use dictionaries and got to try out a team game of scrabble (arguably the most fun game ever created). It's been packed and such a joy! See our photos below.
A few reminders:
-If you haven't signed up for parent teacher interviews, please do! Concerns or not, I would love to see you and connect. It is really valuable time and I hope to see everyone there. If you can't make the slotted times, reach out and we will find an alternative time that works for you.
-The book fair will be running next week during interviews as well. I have the told the students they will have an opportunity to independently shop on Tuesday if they bring some money. I also mentioned that sometimes parents like to use their wish list as Christmas gift ideas. I explained that not all kiddos will purchase books and that is TOTALLY okay!
-Next week we have school Monday and Tuesday. We will be celebrating Emma M.'s birthday on Tuesday. Birthday circle begins at 10:40 am. There is no school Wednesday - Friday.
Special Request:
-I am on the hunt for old digital cameras that we could use for outdoor learning. They would need to turn on, and take photos but getting the photos off the device wouldn't be absolutely necessary. I think something battery operated would be the least complicated but we would be happy with anything. If you have something like that laying around at the back of a drawer we would so appreciate it! If you needed it returned at the end of the year, that would be very understandable :)
