This week was short and sweet! It was wonderful to meet with you during parent teacher interviews! There are a few parents who didn't make it in. Just a reminder that I would still love to connect, so feel free to email me a time or day when we could set up a phone call :).
Some exciting news in the tank! This morning I came in and found one of our shrimp had shed her carapace (outer shell). See in the picture gallery below! VERY cool! I didn't see it happen but I hope the evidence is there for us all to look at one Monday. There was already a snail munching on it, so I am not sure it will last. That particular female shrimp has something else interesting happening ... kiddos, you will have to wait and see on Monday!
Also, exciting news ... there are THREE new students joining Grade 3! Two will be joining Mrs. Goruk's class this Monday and we will have one new student joining us the following week. We are really excited to see our community grow. We will prepare this week for the transition.
This week is Halloween! If there are any special preparations for your child, please let me know. I know some may not celebrate Halloween and I'd love to help prepare your child if that is the case. I'd ask that there wouldn't be any violent or disturbing costumes. We also ask that there aren't any weapons. While I am not a big fan of the spooky side of Halloween I do love the cute costumes and the playfulness that it can inspire. I want to ensure all our kids feel safe and comfortable. Also, we do have a pork allergy (which is derived from gelatin) so please keep that in mind if you are sending sweets/treats. Here are our plans to celebrate:
Students are invited to dress up on Tuesday, though it is not mandatory! We will be doing a Halloween parade throughout the school Tuesday morning starting at 9:30 am. Parents are invited to come and watch in the foyer! It should be very sweet!
Halloween is also our Olivia's birthday! After the parade we will be celebrating her (around 10:45) with a birthday circle.
I was hoping to have a "Halloween lunch" party from 12:40 - 1:40 where we could share some food/snacks and play a few games. To do this we would need a few parents to volunteer to bring some healthy snacks to share (veggies, fruit, crackers and cheese, etc.) and a treat or two (Olivia's family, I was guessing you might want to be one of those sign ups since it's her birthday but let me know). I would love to have one small treat, or MAYBE two small treats as I know it will be a sweets heavy day/evening.

After lunch recess we will have a special creative activity as an extension of our party. If there are any parents who want to come in to help with that, you would be very welcome! We could also use a few large/XL mixing bowls and 6 large serving spoons for this!

I am also looking for 6 medium sized pumpkins. Depending on whether we can collect those for Monday I have an activity idea!

We will be at Outdoor School this Wednesday afternoon. It will most likely be muddy! Keep proper footwear in mind this week as you little gets ready.

Also, I am in the process of setting up our Literacy Pro Library which you and your child will have access to at home. It is a LEVELED library which is AWESOME because we can target your child's reading at the right level. As soon as I have that fully up and going I will email you with the details. This will be our BEST way to be doing intentional leveled reading practice at home.
