February 1st, 2024!

Hello Families!

This is our January in a snap update! I missed a few weeks of updates so here it all is at once! I don't hear much feedback from you all regarding these posts so I’m not sure how helpful they are. Do you like them? Do you find them helpful? Do you like the weekly email, or would once a month seem just as effective? It does take a ton of time uploading photos and writing updates, so if it's not something you are finding useful or enjoyable, I will probably not continue. In saying that, if you love it and it’s something that builds the home-school connection I’m very happy to continue, so please let me know!

This month we have been working on measuring in Math! We started targeted reading groups, book clubs and independent novel studies! We started an information writing unit and we've been doing basketball in physical education. We started studying Peru in Social Studies, we've read books, done research, done VR experiences of Machu Picchu and the Amazon river (so cool), and recently built our own tourist attractions of Peru out of lego! It's been an awesome month to be outside in outdoor learning. We've studied the use of tools in the building zone, we've had a +15 day playing a capture the flag wide game at the nature bowl and we took a pleasant snowy day to do a measuring scavenger hunt. In our free time (like indoor recesses) we've been taking apart an old clock radio, building forts and reading lots of good books! Our shrimp had babies (see if you can spot them in the photos) and our fish babies are growing quickly. You will also see photos from Bell Let's Talk Day where the students gave positive messages and mental health tips to post in the school.

It's been an awesome month of growing and learning together.

Coming up we are going to be studying Tunisia, we move into a perimeter unit in Math and we will be continuing on in Language Arts.

I am wondering.....are there any Spanish, Arabic or Ukrainian speakers that would want to come for a class visit? We would love to have a beginners language learning celebration day! Date is to be determined.

Next Week Reminders:

Monday: Crochet club at second recess!

Tuesday: Learning commons - don't forget your books!

Wednesday: Canadian Winter Walk Day - we've convinced most of Div 2 to join us for outdoor school and come on the winter walk day challenge :). Please dress for the weather!

As a group we are really working on relationship dynamics, friendship skills and communicating with each other. It's been a rewarding month and I am looking forward to the time we have ahead!

Questions? Comments? Please reach out!
